Climate Neutral (CO2 neutral)

Despite our activities to reduce our direct and indirect CO2 emissions (refer to Point 1-4), there is a "rest" of unavoidable CO2 emissions.

In order to compensate for this rest, we have commissioned Prima Klima to compensate for our CO2 emissions. That is done by afforestation projects - by planting trees. These new trees absorb more CO2 each year than we produce. And this for the next 50-100 years.

Through our afforestation, we provide all Disegno products climate neutral. And this for all steps of production … from the production of pulp to the finished end product "gift wrap paper". Inclusive of all transportation associated therewith … even to your local specialised shop!

We have planted so many trees that our CO2 emissions for the next 3 years ahead (thus to the year 2012) will be produced climate neutral. Without this project, this afforestation could not be realized. Thus, it is a matter of "effective new trees"!

The afforestation, to compensate for the CO2, represents a special task for us. Trees provide additional habitat for plants and animals (since industrialization, humans have already uprooted 50% of all forests!). Additionally, this afforestation builds a new basis of life for the local people and provides "awareness" of the importance of the forests. Then forests …
  • clean water and air free
  • guards against soil erosion and stores water
  • guards against drying up and flooding
  • provides habitat for plants and animals
  • caters for diversity of species (biodiversity)
  • cooling the air and serves as a recreation area
  • etc.
The afforestation is carried out in regions that are contractually protected from any "wood harvesting". The project partner locally, in co-operation with the respective government department, is responsible for the following courses of action:

After an inspection of the soil, 2500 to 5000 seedlings per hectare (30-100cm high) of local forest species will be planted. In the course of 25 to 40 years the trees will mature. During this time, they will be thinned out so that a mixed forest develops, as we know from our local forests. After 100 years, there will still be 300 to 500 trees per hectare.
